More about Louis Vuitton

Here you'll find vintage and second hand bags from Louis Vuitton: classics in Monogram canvas and Damier, bags in Epi leather, travel bags, small leather goods and accessories. Every piece is one of a kind, checked for authenticity by experts and described with an honest condition grade.

A house that started with trunks

Louis Vuitton founded his company in Paris in 1854 as a trunk maker. The famous Monogram with the LV initials, flowers and stars was designed by his son Georges Vuitton in 1896, partly to make counterfeiting harder. The Damier check pattern is even older, dating from 1888. Because many models have been made almost unchanged for decades, pre-owned Louis Vuitton bags are a good choice: you get a timeless design you can wear for years.

Materials at a glance

Monogram canvas is coated cotton fabric, tough and easy to care for. It's usually paired with light Vachetta leather on the handles and edges. Damier Ebene shows the brown check pattern with dark leather details and is especially hard-wearing in everyday use. Damier Azur is the light blue-and-white version, available since 2006. Epi leather is embossed calfskin with a fine ridged texture that comes in lots of colours. On top of that there's Monogram Empreinte, a soft leather with an embossed Monogram, and the glossy patent leather Monogram Vernis.

Popular models

The Speedy is the handy top handle classic, available in sizes from 25 to 40 and as a Bandoulière with a shoulder strap. The Neverfull is a soft everyday shopper with lots of space. The Alma has a structured, domed shape and looks elegant. The Noé was originally designed for champagne bottles and is now a popular bucket bag. For travel there's the Keepall in sizes from 45 to 60. Smaller and versatile are the Pochette Accessoires, the Pochette Métis and lots of wallets. Things get colourful with the Takashi Murakami collaboration; you'll find all pieces under Louis Vuitton Murakami. Many of these shapes come in several materials, so you can find your favourite model in canvas or leather. Our guide Old Louis Vuitton bag models gives you an overview of older models such as the Papillon, Musette or Epi classics.

What PM, MM and GM mean

Louis Vuitton labels many sizes with abbreviations: PM stands for “petit modèle” (small), MM for “moyen modèle” (medium) and GM for “grand modèle” (large). BB and Nano are even smaller versions. For the Speedy and Keepall, the number gives the approximate width in centimetres. You'll find the exact dimensions in the description of each item.

What to look for when buying

The light Vachetta leather on the handles and edges darkens over time. This patina is normal and says a lot about a bag's age. Check the corners, lining and zips. Older models have a date code that reveals where and when they were made. Since 2021 Louis Vuitton has used a microchip instead. Our guide How to read a Louis Vuitton date code explains how to read it. You'll find tips on caring for canvas and leather in Caring for your designer bag.
