More about Goyard

Here you'll find vintage and second hand bags from Goyard: shoppers, crossbody bags, top handle bags and small leather goods in Goyardine canvas. Every piece is one of a kind, checked for authenticity by experts and described with an honest condition grade.

Parisian trunk makers since 1853

Goyard's history goes back to 1792. In 1853 François Goyard took over the workshop and gave it his name. Like Louis Vuitton, Goyard originally made trunks and luggage. In 1892 Edmond Goyard developed the Goyardine pattern of small, interlocking marks. To this day Goyard sells its bags mainly in its own boutiques and hardly advertises. That makes second hand an easy way to get a Goyard piece.

Materials at a glance

Goyardine canvas is a coated fabric made of cotton and linen. The pattern is applied in several layers, which gives it a slightly raised look. The material is light, water-repellent and tough. Edges and handles are usually calfskin. The bags come in lots of colours, from black and brown through grey to bold red, green or yellow.

Popular models

The Saint Louis is a light shopper with a removable pouch; the Anjou looks similar, but is reversible and has a leather side. The Artois has a zip, and the Saïgon is a top handle bag with a wooden or leather handle. The Belvedere and Bellechasse crossbody bags are also in demand, as are wallets and card holders such as the Saint Sulpice.

Sizes at a glance

Many models come as PM, meaning small, and GM, meaning large, and the Saint Louis and Anjou also as Mini. The exact dimensions are given in the description of each item.

Personalisation at Goyard

In its boutiques, Goyard offers to hand-paint bags with initials, stripes or small motifs. This tradition dates back to the days of travel trunks, which were marked this way to identify their owners. So a personalised bag isn't a flaw but a piece of history, and you can see it clearly in the photos.

Which Goyard suits you?

For everyday use, the Saint Louis and Anjou are a good choice because they're light and offer lots of space. If you want a zip, go for the Artois. For on the go, the Belvedere and Bellechasse with a long strap are great, as they can be worn across the body. Compare the dimensions in the description with a bag you already own. And if something doesn't work out after all, you get 14-day returns (EU).

What to look for when buying

The Goyardine pattern can rub off at the corners and handles. Check the handles, corners, edges and lining. Many pieces have painted initials or stripes from previous owners. That's common with Goyard and part of the house's tradition. You'll find care tips in Caring for your designer bag.
