More about Bottega Veneta
Here you'll find vintage and second hand bags from Bottega Veneta: top handle bags, clutches, shoppers and wallets in woven leather. Every piece is one of a kind, checked for authenticity by experts and described with an honest condition grade.
Craftsmanship without a logo
Bottega Veneta was founded in Vicenza in 1966; the name means Venetian workshop. Instead of a big logo, the house relies on craftsmanship. In the 1970s the brand advertised with the line that your own initials are enough. Its signature is the Intrecciato, a woven pattern of narrow leather strips. Under Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta became the quiet luxury brand of the 2000s, and from 2019 Daniel Lee added soft, eye-catching shapes such as The Pouch.
The weaving is labour-intensive: for one bag, many individual leather strips are woven through each other by hand, without any glue at the crossing points. That's why the bags feel soft and still keep their shape.
Materials at a glance
Intrecciato nappa leather is soft, supple and hand-woven. Maxi Intrecciato uses wider strips and looks more graphic. Grained calfskin is tougher. On top of that there's suede, shearling, patent leather and, for evening bags, satin or metal, for example on the Knot Clutch. The colours range from black and brown to bold shades such as green and yellow.
Popular models
The Pouch is a soft, pouch-shaped clutch launched in 2019. The Jodie is a small hobo bag with a knotted handle, the Cassette a shoulder bag in a chunky weave. The Veneta is a classic hobo bag, the Cabat a large, fully woven shopper. The Arco, the Belly and the Knot Clutch, a small evening bag with a knotted clasp, are also in demand.
Vintage or newer?
Older models from the 2000s look calm and timeless, often in muted colours. Newer designs are softer, with a larger weave and more colour. Both are easy to style, because the woven pattern is always recognisable.
Which Bottega Veneta suits you?
For everyday use, the Veneta and Cabat are a good choice because they offer lots of space and sit softly against your body. For evenings, The Pouch and the Knot Clutch are a good fit. If you're looking for a small bag with a handle, the Jodie is a matching model with a soft shape. Compare the dimensions in the description with a bag you already own. And if something doesn't work out after all, you get 14-day returns (EU).
What to look for when buying
With Intrecciato, it's worth checking the edges and the spots where the bag rests. Loose or shifted strips show there first. Also check the handles and the lining. Inside there's a leather tag with a serial number, but on its own it's no proof of authenticity. You'll find care tips in Caring for your designer bag.
