The Boy Bag since 2011
Chanel introduced the Boy Bag in 2011 under Karl Lagerfeld. The name recalls Arthur “Boy” Capel, a close confidant of Coco Chanel. Compared with the Classic Flap, it looks more straight-lined: an angular shape, a heavier chain and a clasp reminiscent of a rifle trigger.
Sizes and materials
The Boy Bag usually comes in Small, Medium and Large, plus smaller versions such as the Boy Wallet on Chain. Popular choices are lambskin with a soft sheen, the tougher caviar leather and patent leather. Many models have diamond quilting, some a V-shaped chevron pattern. The hardware comes in aged silver, gold or ruthenium.
What to look for when buying
